Classical guitarist Steven Dearing grew up in Windsor Ontario, Canada. He began his classical guitar studies at the age of 21 after being primarily a self-taught electric guitarist. He quickly earned a Masters degree in Guitar Performance with a full scholarship from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI where he was able to study at both WSU and The Centre for Creative Studies.

Steven has performed across the US and Canada and he made his European debut as one-half of The Dearing Concert Duo. He performs as a solo guitarist, has been featured as guest soloist with orchestras in the US and Canada and is an accomplished chamber musician, heard frequently with award winning soprano, Abha Dearing, as The Dearing Concert Duo.

Steven has received several awards and recognitions, has been recognized by critics and has appeared on American public radio and television. He was an adjunct Professor and Guitar Instructor at the School of Creative Arts, University of Windsor from 1995-2018. Steven serves the local metro Detroit community by teaching at his Farmington Hills studio.

Steve is a music director at Birmingham Unitarian Church in Bloomfield Hills, MI where he programs, arranges, performs as both band leader and soloist, sings, composes music, and is the Artistic Director of the Sound Bites concert series. He works with youth and adults at bringing music to a spiritual plane.

Steven’s performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez in May 2012 was described as “bringing fresh thoughts to the music showing perfect gentle technique with great expression.” Livonia Symphony.

In 2015 Steven had his first experience with opera performing an invigorating six sold-out shows of “Frida” with the Michigan Opera Theater.

In 2015 Steven returns to Windsor to perform for 4th Wall Music performing works for harp and guitar.
